Wedding Rehearsal Tips

Common tips for your ceremony rehearsal

Officiant walks in first and makes the opening statement.

  1. Partner A’s party enters stage left (audience right) with 5-foot spacing between each person from their party.

  2. All party members stand shoulder to shoulder, then turn 30° toward the altar.

  3. Hands are held the same as Partner A (e.g., watch hand on top).

  4. Flowers are carried comfortably around the navel.

  5. Kids (flower bearers/ring carriers) stand between the lead attendant and the first wedding party member if possible.

  6. Officiant will ask everyone to stand for Partner B.

  7. Partner A turns around when cued by the Officiant to see Partner B. (optional)

  8. Partner B enters with supporters, stops two steps after first row near alter, and is walked to altar after the support statement. (e.g., “Who presents this Bride”)

  9. Couple faces each other, and lead attendant (Often the maid or matron of honor) helps with attire (dress fluff, etc.).

  10. Everyone is seated when cued by Officiant.

  11. Flowers for absent loved ones are placed on front reserved seat/s by couple when prompted by officiant.

  12. Couple holds each other’s left hands during ring exchange. Then flip hand when exchanging rings for a seamless transition.

  13. Rings are passed when asked—be ready! (One at a time)

  14. Make sure all readers know to speak directly into the microphone.

  15. Wait to kiss until Officiant steps out of view. Hold kiss for 10+ seconds for photos.

  16. After the kiss, pause to take in the moment, then recess slowly down the aisle.

  17. Optional: Mid-aisle kiss/dip for extra photo ops.

  18. As each couple exits, the next group fills in toward the center of the altar. Stepping off when noticing the photographer has freed the person/ pair before them.

  19. Do not rush the exit — spacing helps the photographer.

  20. Officiant closes with thank you message and directs guests to the cocktail area.

  21. Having a ceremony in a wooded area or farm? It’s a good idea to refrain from cologne or perfume.
